The Black Swan

Nassim Nicholas Taleb

This was a difficult book, maybe it could have been easier if i was an economist or quant, but I just felt it heavy in parts. I did enjoy that it seems we have very little ability to predict the future and all our reassuring methods fall short in these black swan events. He also seemed to hate Gaussian distributions, fine for normal situations but hopeless when we need them the most.

I love the thanksgiving turkey analogy for black swan events. Farmer is nice and feeds and looks after for the so many consecutive days and then... Economists would look at the previous days and not predict the shopping block.
